Down the Local with ‘Guttersnipe’
Well
the day finally arrived when we got to play our local, ‘The
Station’ in Horsehay. We had been looking forward to this one for
months so anything else than a spot on performance would have been
a let down. Pete the landlord agreed to put us on a few months ago
as in our words we are the ‘house’ band. Even so I am sure he had
some slight reservations after he booked us as the pub is more used
to shall we say quieter type entertainment than your ‘Guttersnipe’
boys.
A quick soundcheck ensured levels were ok. We didn’t have
our full inventory with us due to the size of the room we were playing
in so it seemed a look quicker than usual. This and the fact that
we had dropped most of the gear off in the afternoon meant that we
had more time to consume a few pints of decent real ale before we
started.
The gig itself was a corker after a few teething problems to begin with, namely a bit of feedback and Pete’s mic cutting out. The second set was a stormer and by the time we got to Borstal Breakout most people were up dancing and everyone was singing along. Ever Fallen In Love saw everybody roar with approval so there wasn’t really any time to go off before going in to the encore. They wouldn’t let us off with 3 though so once again we had to drag in Jilted John. In fact even before we had started playing the song half the audience had already sung the first verse! We had all arranged lifts and taxis so the drinking and partying continued to the wee small hours. A very enjoyable night indeed.
