“Guttersnipe Guttersnipe here we are again!”
It was a red-hot
night last Friday and I am not just on about the weather either. Guttersnipe
were back after a 5 week sabbatical at the Dun Cow in Shrewsbury.
New Boy Matts amp wasn’t working at the sound-check so it was an ominous
start, however, it turned out it was just a case of a dodgy lead!
On the boys went with a new opener of CID by the Subs. The crowd were
well up for it and sang pretty much most of the two sets as they were
being played. The place was getting more packed and loud as the night
went on but for me the moment of the gig was when Phil played the
Sweeney riff at the end of ‘Hersham Boys’ and the whole place was
humming along. We had our usual 3 song encore at the end of the night
but they wouldn’t let us off as literally the whole pub was demanding
more. What shall we play? We didn’t need to worry as the punters decided
for us as a 15 strong chant of ‘Jilted John - Jilted John’ rang out.
We hadn’t catered for this but were able to pull it out of the bag
to rapturous applause. Hand on heart this was the best reaction we
have ever received at a gig maybe apart from the Christmas gig. Onwards
and upwards I say!
This was the message sent to us from one punter:
"The
Dunn Cow was a wall of sound on Friday night. It was top notch
mate..
Bravo! As for the lil geezer(Sweeney) givin it
large, he adds to the
performance & deserved a pint."
